Artikel 5: Dialoog met professionals I was able to speak to two people in education with whom I was able to have a wonderful and educational discussion about digital literacy, education and what it is like being a teacher today. The first person I spoke with is Erik Ex, who, together with his brother Luuk, traveled the world to learn about education. They went from Finland to Singapore in their old VW van (the project was called 'de edysee' ), and used digital media and resources to stay in touch with their followers back home, make new friends and contacts, and discuss their ideas and thoughts on local, national and global education. Erik is a friend of mine who taught history at my old school, and is one of the brightest and most competent people I know in education. He has been invited to speak at TED talks, develop curriculum standards and ideas for educating fellow professionals for the government, and about a half dozen other projects that are as diverse and intere...

Visie digitaal onderwijs

Artikel 4: Visie digitaal onderwijs Welke visie heb ik ten aanzien van digitaal onderwijs voor mijn vak?  En onderwijs in het 'algemeen'? After studying about open and online onderwijs in the first part of this course, it became apparent that the various sources available to us as teachers are varied and helpful in allowing for a diverse approach to English teaching. Using ICT to improve upon my teaching is something that could be allowed for in a sustained ‘vision’ for my digital education standards as teacher and guide for students in class. The creative commons allows for many types of sources, like lesson plans, presentations, open source programs and games to come into the classroom and help me in my lessons. Shakespeare and his work comes alive in interactive powerpoints and lessons developed by other professionals and shared online, poetry comes alive through interactive web series allowing for different and new perspectives on classic verses, and many other exa...

Docentcompetenties en ontwikkelingen

Artikel 3: Docentcompetenties en ontwikkelingen 1. A breakdown of related points of interest with regard to ICT in the classroom: Based on my experience teaching and the literature from class, I believe that the issues facing 21st century students and teachers are multifactorial and constantly evolving. I reject out of hand the point Burbeles (2016) makes about the ‘sui generis’ of the term for ‘new education’ as being misleading--there is nothing that comes close to the communicative and social power ICT has in our lives in all of human history. As this relates to the classroom is something I think that also goes without saying, and thus is the ‘over promotion’ of the ‘new’ in ‘new education’ a neo-luddism that can be dismissed by anyone who has experience trying to teach a student in 2019 without recognizing the central role ICT and the internet have in her life. The interdependencies of different learning competencies mean that a linear approach to teaching students with regar...

Bloggen en e-portfolio in het onderwijs

Artikel 2: Bloggen en e-portfolio in het onderwijs I was able to begin using extra ICT resources and blogs in my classroom as far back as 2005, in my first teaching job in Texas. Then, I was a Spanish teacher at a high school outside of Houston, and in order to communicate with students in a ‘fun and innovative way’ (in 2005, Myspace was still a thing, and Facebook had yet to be more than a campus curiosity) with posting things in a simple online forum, perhaps with a photo or two. I had a digital camera and Mac, and loved making short films with my students with small plays and scenes in Spanish they would write in class to perform for on camera. One such example I still have saved on YouTube, is from 2006, in which my 9th graders (15-16 year old at the time) interpret a scene from a then-popular American film, Dodgeball . The students’ performance is still fun to watch 13 years later, and I remember posting the different student films and photos to the blog for everyone to watch...
